Rice
Historically, rice is the first commodity traded by AKILA, and after 17 years in the trade, we now boast the widest range of rice amongst all our product lines.
AKILA’s range of rice includes 1121 Sella Basmati Rice, Parboiled Rice, Thai Fragrant Rice, Jasmine Rice and White Rice. In keeping with its consistently expanding product lines, Sushi Rice (including Calrose and Japonica) is the latest addition to AKILA’s range of rice products.
Sugar
Containerised sugar trade accounts for a large part of the AKILA Group’s business globally. The majority of our sugar export is generated by our experienced team in Brazil and India. However, we also source sugar from South Africa, Eswatini, Mozambique, Europe, the United Arab Emirates and Guatemala, depending on where we can find the best quality at the most competitive prices. Our USA and Brazil offices trade in castor sugar, icing sugar and organic sugar.
The AKILA Group expanded its scope of business in 2010 when it started packing sugar under the AKILA brand. Owing to the success of our AKILA sugar products and our growth in the trade of refined, crystal and raw sugar, we have diversified by adding containerised icing and castor sugar to our quiver in 2013.
Beans & Pulses
South Africa is a leading producer of dry beans and peas in the sub-Saharan region. However, consumption of beans, peas and pulses far exceeds the local production. This gives the AKILA Group the opportunity to import and trade domestically in a variety of beans, peas and pulses.
DESICCATED COCONUT
The AKILA Group has been dealing in desiccated coconut since 2004. This product is sourced from Vietnam, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and for the last two years, from Uruguay as well. We supply fine-grade and medium-grade desiccated coconut to the confectionery and baking industry in 25kg kraft paper bags. In South Africa we offer desiccated coconut in full container loads on a cost and freight basis, on request.
ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS
Sorbitol is a liquid sweetener used in products such as toothpaste, yoghurt, jam, chocolate, cakes and pharmaceutical products. AKILA Group sources and distributes non-crystallising Sorbitol in 300kg drums from manufacturers in Asia.
